The Audi Q5 is a premium all-wheel drive mid-size crossover that combines such qualities as a thoroughbred design, a modern and functional interior, excellent driving characteristics and good off-road potential. This car has a fairly “variegated” (but always well-provided) target audience - it will suit active city dwellers, married couples with children, and even elderly people ...

The international show of the automotive industry in Paris, which started at the end of September 2016, gathered many interesting premieres on its stage, and the main novelty of Audi in the capital of France was the mid-size crossover "Q5" of the second generation.

The car, dressed in the “family” dress code of the German brand, has grown a little in size compared to its predecessor, “armed” with new engines, became lighter, overgrown with technical innovations and received a Mexican “residence permit”. The five-door reached European consumers at the very beginning of 2017, and it became available to Russians only in the spring.

At the end of June 2020, during an online presentation, a restyled SUV made its debut, which was slightly transformed externally due to modified bumpers, lighting equipment, a radiator grill and rims, "registered" a new generation MMI multimedia system inside and received many new options. In addition, in Europe, the car received an expanded power range, while in Russia the engines remained the same.

Outside, the Audi Q5 of the second generation is very much like the "older" Q7 model, and from some angles it is even perceived as a smaller copy of it. The brutality in the exterior of the crossover is extolled by the frowning front end with faceted headlights and a hexagonal radiator grille, and from the stern it looks very good thanks to the sophisticated headlights and "chubby" bumper.

The silhouette of the car is harmonious and tightly knit - a long hood, a falling roofline, "fat" wheel arches and pronounced ribs of the sidewalls.

Size and weight

"Ku-five" fits into the framework of a mid-size community: in length, the "German" is stretched by 4682 mm, of which 2820 mm "occupies" the gap between the wheelsets, and its height and width are 1662 mm and 1893 mm, respectively. By default, the crossover's ground clearance is 200 mm, and with optional air suspension it ranges from 171 to 231 mm.

In "combat" form, the car weighs from 1720 to 1795 kg, depending on the installed engine.

Interior

Inside the "second" Audi Q5 meets the riders with cabinet severity, which does not even "smell" of conservatism. The front panel is an example of elegance and laconicism: a stylish instrument panel (optionally fully virtual with a 12.3-inch screen), a beautiful multi-steering wheel with embossed contours, a "tide" of the center console with a trapezoidal "climate" block. Somewhat ambiguously perceived is that only a free-standing 10.1-inch "tablet" of the multimedia complex, which looks slightly alien and does not add premium to the interior.

The finishing materials in the crossover are fully consistent with its high status - soft plastics, genuine leather, aluminum and other "purebred" structures.

The Ku-fifth cabin has enough free space for five adults, but the person sitting in the middle on the second row will feel cramped because of the protruding floor tunnel.

The rest of the riders have nothing to complain about: in the front there are hospitable chairs with a developed profile and a bunch of adjustments, and the rear sofa is correctly molded and able to "ride" on a sled.

The luggage compartment of the second incarnation of the Audi Q5 boasts an ideal configuration and a solid volume - the capacity of the "hold" with five passengers on board ranges from 550 to 610 liters, depending on the position of the "gallery".

With the rear sofa folded down, the storage space increases to 1,550 liters.

Specifications

In the Russian market, the Audi Q5 2021 model year is offered with two engines to choose from:

  • Under the hood version 45 TFSI quattro hides a 2.0-liter TFSI in-line petrol four with a turbocharger, combined fuel injection, phase shifters at the inlet and outlet, a 16-valve timing belt with a chain drive, an electronically controlled thermostat and a system for changing the lift of the exhaust valves with a compound camshaft, generating 249 horsepower at 5000- 6000 rpm and 370 Nm of torque at 1600-4500 rpm.
  • Modifications 45 TDI quattro relies on a 3.0-liter TDI six-cylinder diesel engine with a V-configuration, a variable geometry turbine, Common Rail fuel injection and a technology for adjusting the lift of the exhaust valves, which produces 249 hp. at 3000-4500 rpm and 600 Nm of peak thrust at 1500-2750 rpm.

Gasoline cars are equipped with a 7-band "robot" S tronic and all-wheel drive quattro ultra transmission with main front-wheel drive and an electromechanical clutch that connects the rear wheels if necessary.

Diesel crossovers can boast of an 8-speed hydromechanical "automatic" and permanent all-wheel drive quattro with a Torsen center differential that distributes traction in the ratio "40:60" in favor of the rear axle.

Dynamics, speed and consumption

The five-door is accelerated from 0 to 100 km / h after 6.2-6.3 seconds, and the peak of its capabilities falls on 237-240 km / h.

Cars with a petrol "four" on average require 7.7 liters of fuel for each "hundred" in mixed mode, and with a diesel "six" - 7.2 liters.

Design features

The second “release” of the Audi Q5 is built on a modular MLB evo “bogie” with an independent chassis front and rear: in the first case, a double wishbone suspension is used, and in the second - a “four-link”.

The body structure of the off-road vehicle combines high-strength steel grades and aluminum (from which the front suspension supports, the hood, the front bumper cross member and the tailgate are made).

In the "state" the five-door is equipped with an electromechanical power steering, brake "pancakes" on all wheels (in the front part with ventilation) and a whole complex of modern electronics (ABS, EBD, BAS and other "chips").

As an option, the "German" offers adaptive shock absorbers, electronically controlled, air suspension, which allows to increase the ground clearance by 60 mm, and an active steering gear.
