The legendary three-door SUV Land Rover 90, which was named Defender 90 at the end of 1990, was born in 1984, but its history goes back to 1948, when the first car of the brand was presented under the name “Series 1”. Since then, in constructive terms, the "Briton" has not fundamentally changed, but has undergone certain modernizations.

In 2007, he received a slightly retouched exterior, a redesigned interior and a new engine with a gearbox, and in 2012, a new power unit was “prescribed” under its hood and a soft-top version was added to the range.

The appearance of "Defender 90" is defiantly old-fashioned, but so brutal and majestic that against its background the rest of the cars are perceived as frivolous small cars. The SUV, of course, has charisma, but it breathes utility from a mile away - rectangular three-door body, simple round optics, overhead door hinges and 16-inch wheel rims, dressed in "toothy" high-profile tires.

Overall length of Land Rover Defender 90 is 4040 mm (with spare wheel), width - 1790 mm, height - 2000 mm, wheelbase - 2360 mm. The minimum clearance "under the belly" of the car is 250 mm (unloaded - 323 mm), and its "travel" weight does not exceed 1870 kg.
In addition to the all-metal version for the SUV, there is an "open" solution with a removable soft top.

Inside "Defender" looks no less condo than outside. The classic analogue "toolkit" with a small "window" of the on-board computer, an old-fashioned steering wheel with a two-spoke design and a monumental console in the center of the front panel with a radio tape recorder, an archaic "climate" unit and auxiliary controls - the interior of the SUV is devoid of any frills and is subject to maximum functionality. The decoration of the "Briton" is cut with high-quality, but "tarpaulin" plastics, and the seats, depending on the configuration, are dressed in fabric or natural leather.

The Land Rover Defender 90 cabin is designed to carry four people, including the driver. Both front and rear have separate seats with a wide profile, unobtrusive side bolsters and a limited headroom, in both cases.

As such, the cargo compartment in the three-door "Defender" is not provided, but behind the unfolded "gallery" you can fit 400 liters of luggage. The seats fold down to the side, which increases the usable volume to 1400 liters, but the cargo capacity is limited due to the narrow doorway. The full-size "spare wheel" is suspended from the "ninetieth" outside on the luggage "flap".

Specifications. Under the hood of the Land Rover Defender 90, an uncontested power unit is installed - a diesel "four" with a volume of 2.2 liters (2198 cubic centimeters) with a 16-valve timing, a Common Rail direct fuel supply system and a Honeywell-Garrett turbine with variable geometry. The engine generates peak power of 122 horsepower at 3500 rpm and 360 Nm of rotational potential, which is reached from 2000 rpm.
By default, the SUV is equipped with a 6-speed "mechanics", a two-stage transfer case with a low range and permanent all-wheel drive with the possibility of blocking the center differential (as standard, the thrust is distributed between the axles "like brothers", but up to 100% of the moment can be directed both to front and rear wheels).

In asphalt disciplines Land Rover Defender is not strong: it takes 15.8 seconds to accelerate from the start to 100 km / h, and the maximum speed is limited at 145 km / h. In the combined driving conditions, the car “according to the passport” consumes 10 liters of “diesel fuel” for every “hundred” of the way (in the urban cycle it takes 12.5 liters, and on the highway - 8.6 liters).
But outside the hard surface, the SUV is in its element: the angles of entry, exit and longitudinal cross-country ability are 49, 35 and 150 degrees, respectively, the ford depth is 500 mm, and the suspension travel is 545 mm.

At the heart of the "Defender" is a powerful spar-type steel frame with a riveted body made of "winged metal", a longitudinally located power unit and a dependent suspension "in a circle, which has variable pitch springs and telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers. The front axle is attached to the frame by means of trailing arms and is equipped with a Panhard rod, and the rear axle, along with the trailing arms, is also endowed with an A-shaped arm.
The SUV is equipped with a worm gear steering system and a hydraulic booster, and all its wheels are equipped with disc brakes, supplemented by an ABS system.

Options and prices. Official deliveries of Land Rover Defender 90 to the Russian market were discontinued at the end of 2014, and throughout 2015 dealers of the brand were selling the accumulated "stock" at a price of 2,160,000 rubles for the initial configuration.
By default, the car "flaunts" power steering, 16-inch steel rims, rear mudguards, heated rear window, fabric trim, audio preparation and standard alarm. The list of optional equipment - ABS, air conditioning, factory "music", leather interior, power windows for the front doors and other "chips".
