Volkswagen Tiguan is a front- or all-wheel drive crossover of the compact segment, which successfully combines "adult" design, modern and practical interior, as well as really decent technical and operational characteristics. This is a kind of "universal car", which is quite suitable for both successful youth, and married couples (including those with children), and even elderly people ...

At the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015, the world premiere of the Volkswagen Tiguan compact SUV of the next, second generation, took place. The car dressed in the current corporate identity of the brand, set by the "eighth Passat", moved to the newest "trolley", enlarged in size and became much more advanced in technical terms.

This crossover entered the European market in the spring of 2016, and from mid-December of the same year it became available for order in the salons of Russian dealers (such a delay was caused by the need to adapt the car to Russian operating conditions, its certification and production localization).

In early July 2020, the Germans, after a whole series of official teasers and spy photos, completely declassified the restyled SUV during a virtual presentation. After the planned renovation, the car was "refreshed" externally due to re-cut bumpers, lighting equipment and a radiator grill, became more modern inside, and also acquired new "advanced" options. Moreover, if for Europe the car also received a new basic turbodiesel, then for Russia it did without technical changes.

The exterior of the restyled Volkswagen Tiguan of the second generation is made in the current style of the German brand. An abundance of chrome, a gloomy look of lighting technology, stylish L-shaped lamps with LED filling, monumental faceted shapes - the crossover looks rich, attractive and even daring. The piled-up roof pillars and the embossed strokes of the wheel arches that accommodate large "rollers" give dynamism to its appearance.

Size and weight

The length of the second generation Tiguan is 4509 mm, width - 1839 mm, height - 1675 mm. It has a wheelbase of 2681 mm (plus 77 mm), and the ground clearance is a very decent 200 mm.

The curb weight of the off-road vehicle varies from 1469 to 1715 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

The interior of the SUV with its monumentality evokes associations with the "elder Tuareg". The front panel looks solid and modern, it is slightly turned towards the driver, and on itself it contains a color screen of a multimedia installation measuring from 6.5 to 9.2 inches, depending on the configuration, and a fully touch-sensitive zone climate control unit.

The beautiful multi-function steering wheel, original air vents and the optional digital instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch screen (default "instrumentation" is analog) give the impression that the interior belongs to a higher class car.

In the second generation, the Tiguan boasts a really solid supply of free space in the cabin, including for back row passengers. In this case, the "gallery" also moves on a sled and has a backrest adjustable in angle of inclination. At the front, there are comfortable seats with a developed profile and the necessary ranges for settings.

The trunk of the 2nd generation Volkswagen Tiguan is capable of holding 615 liters of luggage at a time with a five-seat layout. The second row sofa converts into a flat cargo area, increasing the usable volume to 1665 liters.

On the sides of the luggage compartment there are a couple of deep pockets, and in a niche under the raised floor there is a "dock" and a small organizer with tools.

In the Russian market, for the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan model year, four engines are offered that meet the Euro 6 environmental standards.
