In February 2003, at the Amsterdam Motor Show, Volkswagen launched the first generation Touran compact van, which was launched to offer customers an alternative to the larger Sharan.

In 2006, an updated version of "Turan" debuted at a motor show in Paris, which received a corrected appearance and a slightly modified interior. The production of one volume in this form continued until 2010 - it was then that the model came out ... no, not the "second generation", but rather "1½" (significantly modernized, but no more) .... and now we are talking about a car from 2003-2010.

The "first" Volkswagen Touran belongs to the compact van segment with a five- or seven-seat cabin layout.

The external dimensions of the body of the "family German" are as follows: 4407 mm in length, 1635 mm in height and 1794 mm in width. The front and rear axles are located at a distance of 2678 mm, and the ground clearance is poorly adapted for Russian roads - only 120 mm. Depending on the modification, the curb weight of the car varies from 1430 to 1564 kg.

A very diverse power plant was installed on the Turan of the first generation:

  • petrol 1.6-liter "aspirated" with a capacity of 102 horsepower, the potential of which is 148 Nm of peak thrust,
  • 1.4-liter turbo engines: in three levels of boost - 140, 150 and 170 "horses" / 220, 220 and 240 Nm, respectively,
  • as well as turbodiesels with a volume of 1.9 to 2.0 liters, which produce from 90 to 170 power forces and from 210 to 350 Nm of torque.

The combination with the engines form a manual transmission with five or six steps, as well as a 6- or 7-band DSG "robot".

The "original" Volkswagen Touran is built on a PQ35 bogie with independent suspension "in a circle": MacPherson struts on the front axle and a four-link arrangement on the rear axle.

The steering gear of the compact van is complemented by an adaptive electric booster, and the braking system "flaunts" full disc brakes and an anti-lock system.

The strengths of the "first Turan" are: excellent soundproofing of the cabin, ample opportunities for transformation of the interior decoration, easy handling and high-torque engines that consume a small amount of fuel.

The chassis of this car does not indulge in a smooth ride, but it works well, avoiding breakdowns. In addition, a modest clearance under the bottom can become a problem on Russian roads, and turbocharged engines are demanding on the quality of fuel.

In 2017, in the secondary market of the Russian Federation, you can purchase it at a price of 300 ~ 600 thousand rubles (depending on the condition, equipment and year of manufacture of the car).
