The Kia Stonic is a front-wheel drive five-door subcompact crossover developed by the European division of Kia Motors and intended for the countries of the Old World and South Korea ...

Its main target audience is young people aged 20 to 30, who, when choosing a car, pay special attention to design, fuel efficiency and price tag ...

For the first time, the SUV was shown to a wide audience on June 20, 2017 - during an online presentation, but its full-scale debut took place in mid-September - on the stage of the International Motor Show in Frankfurt.

The car, the name of which is formed by the merger of the words "speedy" and "tonic" (tonic), received a stylish design, high-quality interior and chassis from the fourth generation Hyundai Accent (we know it as the second generation "Solaris").

Outside, "Stonik" is perceived as a "raised hatchback" rather than a full-fledged crossover (all because of the "light" proportions of the body), however, it looks beautiful, stylish, modern and lean, without losing connection with other current models of "Kia".

In terms of its dimensions, the Kia Stonic is a typical B-SUV: it is 4140 mm long, 1520 mm high, and 1800 mm wide. The crossover has a 2580 mm gap between the pairs of wheels.

Inside, the five-door boasts a European-style design, good workmanship, good-quality finishing materials and wide customization options.

The interior of the SUV has a five-seat layout, and its luggage compartment in the "stowed" position can accommodate 352 liters of luggage.

The Kia Stonic has a decent choice of powertrains:

  • Gasoline range includes four-cylinder "aspirated" 1.2-1.4 liters with multipoint injection, developing 84-99 horsepower and 122-132 Nm of torque, and a 1.0-liter "turbo-three" T-GDI with direct "power" which generates 120 hp. and 172 Nm of peak thrust.
  • There is only one diesel for the crossover - a 1.6-liter four-cylinder unit with Common Rail technology, a turbocharger and 16 valves, producing 110 horsepower and 280 Nm of rotational potential.

The lowest-powered version is equipped with a 5-speed "mechanics", while the rest are assigned a 6-speed "manual" transmission, and a 7-band "robot" with two clutches is also available as an option with a 120-horsepower engine.

The drive of the crossover has no alternative - to the front axle, but it is equipped with an advanced stabilization system that can simulate the operation of a self-locking differential.

"Stonic" is based on a front-wheel drive platform with a transverse mounted power unit, and its body structure consists of more than half of high-strength types of steel.

In front, the "Korean" is equipped with an independent "hodovka" type MacPherson with a transverse stabilizer, and at the back - a semi-independent twisting beam.

The five-door boasts a steering system with an electric power steering and a brake complex with ventilated discs on the front and drum devices on the rear axles (in the "base" - with ABS and EBD).

In the countries of the Old World, sales of the Kia Stonic started in September 2017 (at a price of ~ € 16,000), but, unfortunately, it will not reach the Russian market.
A wide range of equipment is declared for the crossover: front and side airbags, ABS, ESP, multimedia system, single-zone "climate", cruise control, leather upholstery, rearview camera, automatic braking technology, tracking blind spots and much more.
