Range Rover Evoque is an urban five-door premium crossover of the compact segment, which has four-wheel drive and an "impressive off-road body kit" - but all this is not intended to conquer the off-road ... the ideal environment for him is a Russian city with its not always high-quality roads, "broken" courtyards and other "delights" that motorists often have to deal with ...

The world premiere of the small premium SUV took place in early July 2010 - at a pompous event in London, which was broadcast over the Internet, and its full-scale debut "thundered" a few months later - at the stands of the Paris Motor Show.

The car, which became the serial embodiment of the LRX concept (which was revealed to the public back in December 2007), received: a sonorous name, dynamic appearance, stylish interior and modern technical component.

In March 2015, at a motor show in Geneva, a restyled crossover appeared before a wide audience - it was "refreshed" externally (due to new bumpers, a radiator grill and lighting equipment), refined inside (thanks to improved finishing materials), equipped with new equipment and "presented" modernized line of engines.

Outside, Range Rover Evoque boasts a beautiful, stylish and taut look that dares to catch gazes in city traffic.

At the front, the car attracts attention with a cunning "squint" of the head optics, a narrow radiator grille and a massive bumper, and at the back it looks aggressive and dynamic due to graceful lights, an impressive spoiler on the tailgate and a "bifurcated" exhaust.

The lean silhouette of the five-door flaunts vigorous outlines with a heavily piled back windshield, sloping roof, darkened roof pillars and embossed "folds" on the sidewalls, which add a bit of solidity to the pronounced "muscles" of the wheel arches and high ground clearance.

Now about the dimensions: the length of the Range Rover Evoque crossover is 4371 mm, of which 2660 mm are allocated for the wheelbase, the width without mirrors is 1965 mm (2090 mm with mirrors), and the height rests against the 1660 mm mark.
The ground clearance (clearance) of the car reaches 216 mm under the crankcase and 240 mm under the rear part of the body - thanks to which it is able to overcome fords with a depth of no more than 500 mm.

When equipped, the five-door weighs from 1658 to 1675 kg (depending on the equipment option).

The interior of "Evoka" is made in laconic minimalism, which does not spoil it at all. Three-spoke multi-steering wheel of optimal dimensions, "painted" in a sporty manner, a combination of devices with two "deep wells" and a color display between them, a sloping center console with an 8-inch screen of the entertainment and information center and an exemplary "microclimate" block - inside the crossover looks elegant, stylish and noble.

Moreover, the car "flaunts" verified ergonomics, high build quality and good finishing materials (nice plastics, aluminum, genuine leather, etc.).

Formally, the interior of Range Rover Evoque is a five-seater, but in the second row, tall riders may feel some discomfort due to the limited supply of free space, and the high floor tunnel makes the presence of a third rider extremely undesirable.
In the front of the cabin there are comfortable seats with a good level of lateral support, soft filling, wide ranges of electric adjustments and heating (and, as an option, also with ventilation).

As for the cargo compartment, in the "base" it holds up to 575 liters of cargo, and with the second row of seats folded down - up to 1145 liters, while the length and width of the trunk are 1580 and 1090 mm.
In a niche under the raised floor of the off-road vehicle, there is a compact spare wheel with a steel rim and the necessary tools.

For the five-door Range Rover Evoque on the Russian market, there are four power plant options, two of which are diesel and two are gasoline:

  • The basic versions of the crossover relies on a 2.0-liter (1999 cubic centimeters) aluminum diesel of the Ingenium family, equipped with four in-line cylinders, a variable geometry turbocharger, direct fuel injection, an exhaust phase shifter and a 16-valve DOHC type timing belt that generates 150 horsepower at 4000 rpm and 430 Nm of torque at 1500 rpm.
  • More efficient diesel modifications are equipped with the same engine, but "pumped" up to 180 hp. at 4000 rpm and 430 Nm peak potential at 1500 rpm.
  • It is followed in the hierarchy by the Si4 gasoline engine, which has 4 in-line cylinders with a total displacement of 2.0 liters (1999 cm³), equipped with a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, direct fuel injection and turbocharging. Its output is 240 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 340 Nm of torque at 1900-3500 rpm (in the "Overboost" mode - 360 Nm).
  • The "top" variant contains a similar petrol "four" under its hood, but in this case it generates 290 hp. at 5500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1500-4500 rpm.

All units are jumbled with a 9-band automatic and a Standard Driveline all-wheel drive transmission equipped with a 5th generation Haldex multi-plate clutch (which directs power to the rear wheels). At the same time, in standard operation, the torque is distributed in a ratio of 90:10 in favor of the front axle. Range Rover Evoque has no crawler gear and differential lock functions, instead the crossover is equipped with a Terrain Response system with 4 modes of operation: standard, grass / snow, mud and sand - which is enough for confident driving around town and off-road trips.
For the "top" diesel engine (as an option) and gasoline engines (as standard), the "Active Drive" system is provided, which implies an additional clutch that disables the rear axle together with the propeller shaft, and electronically controlled clutches for each of the rear wheels.

From standstill to 100 km / h, this SUV accelerates after 6.3 ~ 10 seconds, and accelerates to a maximum of 180-231 km / h (depending on the version).

Diesel versions of the car consume from 4.8 to 5.1 liters of fuel for each "mixed hundred kilometers", and gasoline - about 7.8 liters.

At the heart of the Range Rover Evoque is a shortened version of the "Ford platform" EUCD with a body structure made of high-strength steel grades. The hood and roof of the SUV are made of aluminum, while the fenders and tailgate are made of plastic.

The suspension of the car is completely independent, front and rear is based on MacPherson struts, supplemented by anti-roll bars. If desired, it is possible to install an optional electronically controlled chassis with adaptive Magne Raid dampers.

Disc brakes are used on all wheels of the crossover, supplemented by ventilation on the front axle (in the "state" - with ABS, EBD, BAS, ASR and other "chips"). The rack and pinion steering mechanism of the five-door is equipped with an electric booster.

In the Russian market, Range Rover Evoque in 2018 can be purchased at a price of 2 673 000 rubles (basic equipment with a 150-horsepower diesel engine), and it is offered in six equipment options - "Pure", "SE", "SE Dynamic" , HSE, HSE Dynamic and Autobiography.

  • As a standard, the "Briton" is able to boast: seven airbags, 17-inch wheels, a multimedia complex with an 8-inch screen, halogen headlights, an audio system with 8 speakers, a dual-zone "climate", power windows for all doors, ABS, ESP, heated front seats and other equipment.

... a car with a 190-horsepower engine costs from 3,118,000 rubles, the gasoline version cannot be purchased for less than 3,288,000 rubles, and the "top-end" modification is offered at a price of 4,432,000 rubles.

  • "Full stuffing" stands out for the presence of: 20-inch "rollers", keyless entry system, adaptive LED headlights, leather interior trim, all-round cameras, "music" with ten speakers and a subwoofer, as well as a lot of other "gadgets".
