The Genesis GV80 is a rear- or four-wheel-drive premium SUV in the mid-size category and is also the first car of its kind in the history of the South Korean premium brand, combining elegant design, a high-quality interior with a five- or seven-seat layout, modern technology and a large number of progressive options ... It is addressed, first of all, to self-sufficient middle-aged and older men and women (often family) with a high level of income, who want to get a “presentable, comfortable and safe crossover”, but at the same time they do not consider representatives of the “big German three” ...

The official premiere of Genesis GV80 took place on January 15, 2020 at a specially convened press conference in Seoul, which was broadcast via the Internet, while its appearance and interior were declassified at the very beginning of the month, and the conceptual forerunner of the same name made its debut back in April 2017. at the stands of the International New York Auto Show.

It is noteworthy that the company itself pin great hopes on its first SUV, comparing its appearance with the landing of a man on the moon, which is why they entrusted the work on it to an international team - designers from studios in South Korea, Germany and the United States worked on the car.

Exterior

The exterior of Genesis GV80 is made in the new design language of the brand called "Athletic Elegance" - the crossover looks very attractive, noble, monumental and balanced, and its appearance has enough interesting design solutions.

The haughty "physiognomy" of the five-door is decorated with headlights cut in half horizontally, an impressive "pentagon" of the radiator grille with rhombic cells and a "figured" bumper, and its graceful stern flaunts stylish lanterns, all also split in half, a raised trunk lid and a neat bumper.

In profile, the Korean premium SUV "flaunts" presentable, harmonious and sporty fit outlines - a long hood, sloping roofline, powerful "shoulder" area, expressive sidewalls and huge wheel arches that can easily accommodate "rollers" up to 22 inches.

This is a mid-size crossover with the corresponding overall dimensions: it is 4945 mm long, of which the center distance "extends" to 2955 mm, reaches 1975 mm in width, and does not exceed 1715 mm in height.

In the equipped form, the five-door weighs from 2135 to 2310 kg, depending on the modification, and its total weight only a few does not reach three tons.

Interior

The interior of the Genesis GV80 is executed in the style of minimalism and boasts a truly "thoroughbred" design, which is accompanied by impeccable ergonomics, exceptionally high-status finishing materials (pliable plastics, aluminum, expensive leather, natural wood, etc.) and a high level of performance.

The interior of the crossover fully corresponds to its premium status - an elegant two-spoke multi-steering wheel with a "puffy" rim, a fully virtual instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch display, a massive front panel with a protruding widescreen media system measuring 14.5 inches and a high center console with a touch-sensitive climate display. installation, retractable gear selector and other controls.

The interior of a mid-size premium SUV is designed to accommodate five people by default, but it can optionally be equipped with a two-seater "gallery", which is more suitable for accommodating children or teenagers (well, or short adults).

Inhabitants of the front row are given comfortable chairs with a well-defined side profile, a large number of electrical adjustments and all the "blessings of civilization" (heating, ventilation and memory). At the back there is a “hospitable” sofa, clearly molded for two people, but equipped with three headrests, but the set of amenities here is small - its own climate control, a folding armrest with cup holders in the center, heating, an outlet and a USB connector.

The arsenal of the Genesis GV80 includes a luggage compartment of a fairly modest size, correct in shape (although the exact numbers have not yet been disclosed). The third row of seats folds in two equal sections and the second folds in three in a 40:20:40 ratio, resulting in a flat cargo area. In a niche under the raised floor near the five-door there is a "dock" and tools.

Specifications

Genesis GV80 is delivered to Russia with three engines to choose from, and all of them are mated exclusively with an 8-band hydromechanical "automatic" (it is controlled by a "washer", not the usual selector) and an all-wheel drive transmission HTRAC, which has a multi-disc clutch for connecting the front axle and an electronically controlled rear differential (optional):

  • The basic version is a 2.5-liter inline petrol "four" T-GDI with a turbocharging, a direct injection system, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and phase shifters at the inlet and outlet, generating 249 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 422 Nm of torque at 1650-4000 rpm.
  • It is followed in the hierarchy by a 3.0-liter VGT six-cylinder diesel engine with in-line architecture, an aluminum cylinder block, a variable geometry turbocharger on ball bearings, a liquid intercooler and a 24-valve timing belt, which produces 249 hp. at 3800 rpm and 588 Nm of torque at 1500-2750 rpm.

Dynamics, speed, consumption

The premium crossover takes just 5.5-7.5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h, and its top speed is 220-240 km / h.

Fuel consumption for every "hundred" in mixed mode for gasoline cars varies from 10.4 to 11.7 liters, and for diesel cars it is 8.8 liters.

Design features

The Genesis GV80 is based on a new "rear-wheel drive" platform with a classic layout with a longitudinally mounted engine and a monocoque body made with extensive use of high-strength grades of steel. At the same time, the doors, hood and trunk lid of the SUV are made of aluminum.

As standard, the car is equipped with fully independent suspensions with steel springs, conventional shock absorbers and anti-roll bars - double wishbone at the front and multi-link at the rear. For a surcharge, the five-door can be equipped with an adaptive chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers that change stiffness based on the readings of the front camera (it scans the roadway in front of the car) and the navigation system.

The car is equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering with active electric power steering. On all wheels of the crossover, ventilated disc brakes are used, working with ABS, EBD and other electronic assistants.
