On February 1, 2013, the acceptance of applications for the new generation of the Toyota RAV4 crossover officially started. "The fourth RAV4" has noticeably changed, having received a fresh look, a more comfortable interior and, of course, a completely new technical filling.

By the way, the appearance of the car in the fourth generation has changed dramatically. From now on, the RAV4 is much more modern, prettier and more aggressive, and this car will undoubtedly appeal not only to young people, but also to middle-aged men who want to stand out on the road.

The body of the fourth generation Toyota RAV4 is made of several light grades of steel, which made it possible to reduce the weight of the car. In addition, several technological solutions have been applied in the body design to improve the distribution of air flows, significantly reducing the coefficient of aerodynamic drag.

The front end is made in a new style with narrow headlights and a two-piece bumper of complex relief. At the back, at last, there is a modern door that opens upwards, and not sideways, as before. We also note stylish lamps of an unusual shape and a neat small bumper.

The dimensions of the crossover have grown slightly (except for the height): 4570x1845x1670 mm, while the wheelbase remains the same - 2660 mm.

Inside, the fourth-generation RAV4 crossover has also been transformed for the better. All around there are better materials for finishing, borrowed from Camry and having several options for the choice of the buyer.

The front panel has become much more elegant, has acquired "space" and even futuristic elements that have increased the overall ergonomics. The center console has become more massive, and the steering wheel has gained additional functionality. As for the free space, it has become a little more, but nevertheless, competitors look more attractive in this component.

The new rear seats have learned to fold compactly in a 60:40 ratio, increasing the luggage compartment volume to 1705 liters from the base 577.

Specifications. In Russia, the Toyota RAV4 is offered with two efficient gasoline engines and one powerful diesel power unit. The range of gearboxes is also very wide, including all possible options: 6-speed "mechanics", 6-speed "automatic" and the ultra-modern continuously variable variator Multidrive S (which will be available for the first time in front-wheel drive configurations). But back to the motors:

  • The youngest among gasoline units is now a two-liter engine with four cylinders, each of which has four DOHC valves. The timing mechanism has a chain drive and two VVT-i camshafts. The power of this power unit reaches 145 hp. or 107 kW at 6200 rpm. The peak torque is 187 Nm at 3600 rpm, which makes it possible to easily accelerate the crossover from 0 to 100 km / h in just 10.2 seconds. As for the maximum speed of a car with this engine under the hood, it is 180 km / h, regardless of the type of gearbox installed. By the way, the "two-liter" with the "mechanics" and the variator is aggregated, and front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variations of the crossover are available. The manufacturer recommends using AI-95 gasoline as fuel, and the efficiency of the engine fully meets modern requirements: in urban mode, about 10 liters per 100 km, on the highway - 6.5 liters, and in mixed driving mode, the consumption will be exactly 8 liters.
  • The second petrol engine for the IV-generation RAV4 is also a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Like the younger engine, the flagship is equipped with a 16-valve DOHC system and two chain-driven VVT-i camshafts. The maximum power of this engine reaches 179 hp. or 132 kW at 6000 rpm. The peak engine torque is increased to 233 Nm at 4100 rpm, which also allows reaching a maximum speed of 180 km / h or raising the needle from 0 to the first 100 km / h on the speedometer in 9.4 seconds. A restriction is imposed on the checkpoint, this power unit is completed only with an “automatic”, accompanied by an all-wheel drive system. As for the economy, in this case the average consumption increases slightly: 11.4 liters in the city, 6.8 liters on the highway and 8.5 liters in the mixed mode of travel.
  • The only four-cylinder diesel D-4D has a displacement of 2.2 liters and has 150 hp. (110 kW) maximum power, which develops at 3600 rpm. Like gasoline units, this engine is equipped with a 16-valve DOHC system and two VVT-i camshafts, controlled by a timing chain drive. The performance of the diesel engine is very high, because the peak torque is reached at 2000 - 2800 rpm and is 340 Nm, which guarantees the crossover acceleration to a maximum of 185 km / h, while the acceleration dynamics is very decent: from 0 to 100 km / h the car accelerates only in 10 seconds. Like the petrol flagship, the only diesel is equipped with only an automatic transmission and is complemented by an all-wheel drive system. Diesel is very economical: the average fuel consumption in a mixed driving mode should be about 6.5 liters, although the manufacturer has not yet published data on consumption in urban mode and on the high-speed highway.

It is worth saying a few words about the all-wheel drive system used on the fourth generation Toyota RAV4. The entire electronic filling was developed almost from scratch, significantly increasing the intelligence of the entire system, which should improve the off-road qualities of the car, but only the first official tests in Russia, which, unfortunately, have not yet been carried out, will show whether there is a positive effect from this. For now, let's add that the four-wheel drive is not constant, but is connected as needed using an electromagnetic clutch and can be forcedly distributed in a 50:50 ratio. In standard operation, the torque is automatically redistributed between the wheels with the best grip. All-wheel drive is controlled by the Dynamic Torque Control All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system with three operating modes: Auto, Lock and Sport.

The developers decided not to change the independent suspension, only slightly adjusting its settings, thereby improving the smoothness of the passage of road obstacles in the form of eternal Russian potholes and pits. MacPherson struts are used at the front, and double wishbones at the rear. The car's chassis itself has improved significantly, becoming much stiffer. The steering is complemented by an electric power steering with new, more precise settings.

Of the electronic safety systems that come as standard, the RAV4 is equipped with: ABS, EBD, emergency braking assist (BAS), hill start assist (HAC), traction control (TRC), VSC + directional stability system, downhill assist system slope control (DAC) and dynamic steering system (IDDS), available in four-wheel drive versions. The standard driver and passenger safety package includes two front and two side airbags, a driver's knee airbag and two side curtain airbags.

Options and prices 2015 Toyota RAV4. For Russia, the manufacturer offers a very wide range of configurations: Classic, Standard, Comfort and Comfort Plus, Elegance Plus and Prestige Plus.
The basic configuration "Classic" with manual transmission and front-wheel drive will cost the buyer 1,255,000 rubles, and the all-wheel drive version with a variator (in the "Standard" configuration) will cost 1,487,000 rubles. The upper price threshold for the "fourth RAV4" is indicated by the Prestige Plus package with a petrol flagship under the hood, all-wheel drive and automatic transmission - 1,948 thousand rubles, while the diesel option will cost a slightly lower price - 1,936,000 rubles.
