The premiere of the first generation Skoda Fabia officially took place in September 1999 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and a month later the model went into production. At the end of the summer of 2000, Skoda began production of the Fabia Combi station wagon, and in the winter of 2001, the Fabia Sedan sedan. From 1999 to 2007, 1,788,063 Fabia were sold worldwide.

The "first" Skoda Fabia (index 6Y) was based on the Volkswagen Group A04 platform. The car was introduced to the market as a five-door hatchback, station wagon and sedan. There was also a sports version with the RS prefix.

Depending on the body type, the length of "Fabia" varied from 3970 to 4323 mm, height - from 1449 to 1452 mm, width, wheelbase and ground clearance (ground clearance) are the same in all cases - 1646 mm, 2462 mm and 140 mm, respectively. The curb weight of the car depended on the installed engine and equipment - from 1010 to 1180 kg.

The first generation Skoda Fabia was offered with eight engines. The volume of five gasoline units ranged from 1.2 to 2.0 liters with power from 55 to 116 horsepower, and three diesel units - from 1.4 to 1.9 liters with a return of 70 to 101 horsepower. They worked in tandem with a 5-speed "mechanics" and a 4-band "automatic".

Under the hood of the sports version of the Skoda Fabia RS was a 1.9-liter turbo engine producing 130 "horses".

The "first" Skoda Fabia was equipped with independent spring suspension both at the front and at the rear. Ventilated disc brakes were installed on the front wheels, and drum brakes on the rear.

Like all cars, the first generation Skoda Fabia has advantages and disadvantages. On the positive side, it is possible to note the good and well-thought-out ergonomics of the cabin, excellent noise insulation, high-quality assembly, stable behavior on the road, excellent handling and brakes. The power of the weakest engines was clearly not enough for such a machine.
The negative aspects include boring interior design, not very attractive appearance, a small amount of space on the back sofa, and a small trunk.
