This model is a small family car, the first generation of which was introduced in 1995 and went on sale in 1996.

"Megan" at one time replaced the Renault 19 model. In 1999, the car underwent a small update.

The first generation Renault Megane was offered in five body versions at once: sedan, 5-door hatchback, station wagon, coupe and convertible.
Depending on the body type, the length of the car varied from 3931 to 4440 mm, the height - from 1365 to 1420 mm, the wheelbase - from 2468 to 2580 mm.
Width and ground clearance (clearance) in all cases were equal to 1700 and 120 mm, respectively.
In running order, the car weighed from 1010 to 1275 kg, depending on the type of body, engine, gearbox and equipment.

The "first" Renault Megane was equipped with a front independent spring and rear semi-independent torsion bar suspension. Ventilated disc brakes were installed on the front wheels, and drum brakes on the rear.

For the first generation Renault Megane, gasoline and diesel engines were offered.

  • The gasoline line included units with a volume of 1.4 - 2.0 liters with a capacity of 75 to 150 horsepower
  • The diesel engine included 1.9-liter engines producing from 64 to 102 "horses".

Engines were combined with a 5-speed "mechanics" or 4-band "automatic" and front-wheel drive.

The car is not devoid of advantages and disadvantages. The former include a fairly spacious interior, confident behavior on the road, inexpensive maintenance, good build quality, attractive appearance, good maintainability, availability of spare parts and much more. Noise isolation "Megan" of the first generation is at a decent level, however, as the speed increases, more and more noise penetrates into the cabin.

As for the shortcomings, many owners of the model note unreliable wiring, low ground clearance, hard plastic trim and a suspension that is not well adapted to bad roads.
